Just a correction: The correct name of descendants of the freed slaves you mentioned “Krio” (or Creole in proper English). The name “Aku” only came about in The Gambia, for some reason. One of the theories is that they Krios greeted each other saying “Kusheh” which could mean well done, or keep up the good work … hence the name Aku. But If you were to ask the Krios in the Gambia, they still and always have refered to themselves as Krios

The rest of you info is accurate:)

Hey folks! Gambia is versatile. It’s 90% muslim, 5% Christian ex-Halifax slaves from Canada/ and the Carribean who went back to FREETOWN, Sierra Leone in the 1800’s known as Aku’s and migrated throughout West Africa When slavery ended. FYI.

Unfortunate that poor girl has to work for the Lebanese as the help. Its very difficult to buy anything from a Gambian owned business thanks to the Lebanese.
