I am with you brother. I lived in the BX for 4 years. I just came from the gambia little over a month ago. Westerns get brain washed about 3rd world countries. when they hear Africa, there is few thing that come through their mind is war, dirt, starvation and all the negative things you can think of. i was their with my GF n she was amazed. it has lot of impact on her life, she is more smart, understanding and loving. unlike AVERAGE “HAYAWAN” Americans. Especially New Yorkers

I visited The Gambia from march 11 to may 11 of 2009. I was born in The united states to a gambian parents. I love it over there. i am hoping one day, after college i will save up and build a dream house in the gambia, No place like the Motherland!!!

Interesting comments! I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer living in The Gambia for the last 11 months. I shop at the Serrekunda Market every Sunday. At 1st visit, I remember it being visually shocking and dirty and scary and loud and all those things we are so unfamiliar with in the states. Now, it’s one of my favorite places to visit for all of those same reasons. It’s so ALIVE! You just have to spend a lot of time in the 3rd world before you have right to comment on it (good or bad). This, I know.

I don’t if Gambia looks like this or that or whatever, I know for sure that there are some world class dishes cooked in the kitchen of every Gambian home. I am crazy for African food. Gambian people are awesome. Poverty is here today, gone tomorrow, but childhood dreams, happiness, family, good food and good life can be found all around the world.

Because Westerners don’t know about the nicer places. Even ther were nicer places in Gambia, they will choose to go to the worse onces because they need to continually compare their status in the world the poor. western media molds their mind into thinking they are the “chosen people” or some stupid crap like that.

This clip is a very fair reflection of Gambia. Serekunda is the biggest town in The Gambia, its population is much larger than the capital Banjul. As for the nice homes. unfortunately by first world standards they do not exist, unless you count the homes that are owned by none Gambians like the Europeans and Lebanese. As for shopping malls, forget it, but there are some wonderful indoor markets. When an average wage is $250 a year you worry more about feeding yourself than getting to the mall.

And like Dylanfan said, it’s not the money that makes the value of a human being. If Bill Whatever his name is walked around and didn’t shower for days people would still try to get in his inner circle. If anyone else did that they’d call them savages. I mean haven’t we grown up. All these studies proving that all people come from Africa and that we’re all equal and the same under the species homo sapien sapien, and still people are so racist. WHY?!

  9. kikibaker101 says:

It’s my second home too. I feel very at peace there. That’s why I don’t like all these assholes hating on it just because they saw it on a video, that’s such bullshit

  10. OG4life1995 says:

SHut the fuck up god. I’m tired of seeing your dumb ass comments. Not all the places are like this. that’s the bottom line. I’ve been to dirty places like this and i’ve been to the capital which is nice. better than where I live in america.(Bronx new york)

  11. OG4life1995 says:

I’ve been to gambia and stayed at a hotel and it’s really nice. So what do you mean I don’t think it exist

  12. kikibaker101 says:

EXACTLY what I’m saying! Minus the one part about there not being any…

  13. kikibaker101 says:

    EXACTLY what I’m saying!

  14. respectmbowe says:

    u r a dirty ass racism.

  15. respectmbowe says:

yall r so rude, if they did that to ur country u won’t like it. so watch the way u speak and this vidoe is not true they r just joeulos of our natural beauty. i know cuz i lived there all my and am not gambian and is true that we dress good and have a very environment. so don’t talk about it like that. IDIOT

  16. Tellingulikeitis says:

Why is it that they never show the nicer parts of Gambia? That is, if there are any. Why not show the nice homes, the major city or malls? I don’t get it.

  17. DylanfanGERM says:

THis is not true! I am not a Gambian, but people in The Gambia are very clean and nice dressed. They do all that is possible and are much more happy than most Europeans or Americans. Yes, most of them are poor compaired to most of us, but its not money that makes the value of a human being.

  18. sarrgirl says:

i cant believe how disrespectful some people are are and how you can judge a place and people when you have never been there yourself, i as a british lady have been to gambia many times and both the people and the country are beautiful. my husband is even gambian and he is the most pleasant man you will ever meet, gambia is a wonderful place and i will keep returning to my house there as it peacful, stunning and my 2nd home.

  19. Tellingulikeitis says:

I would never go to a dirty ass country. That is not my idea of a vacation. Only the best for me

  20. Tellingulikeitis says:

Dir-ty, because that is all I see. Hey, I rhymed!

  21. kikibaker101 says:

You’re a loser, go find a life, and learn to speak english while you’re at it.

  22. kikibaker101 says:

Then maybe you should go and see for yourself. There are plenty of beautiful parts of Africa they never show. Like Accra, in Ghana, is a beautiful city, but whenever Africa comes up on TV it’s the fucking jungle or some remote and poor village in East Africa. They never show the modernized parts. Besides, who are we to compare their ways of life to ours and judge them as worse. Just because they don’t life like us doesn’t mean their way of life is wrong.

  23. kikibaker101 says:

And start a whole war against the entire European Union? Not even the United States would do that, don’t be stupid.

  24. kikibaker101 says:

Oh and by the way, Gambia isn’t a state, and serekunda isn’t either. It’s called country…let’s say it together now, COun-Try.

  25. afuckingbadass says:

kikibaker101 go and screw you dad you fucking pussy.
